According to the calendar, the spring season has already started here in northern Minnesota. Unfortunately, we are still dealing with cold temperatures. Since the start of the new season, my hubby and I have had the opportunity to set out in the sun only a couple of times. We usually have the opportunity to spend a lot more time in the warm spring sun by this time, but not this year. I have only had a chance to run in our yard once. From summer to fall, running is a big part of my exercise routine. On the days that are not good for running outside, I do yoga or zumba. I haven’t tried obstacle course racing yet but it sounds like a new and interesting exercise program to add to my list. This new book called, Obstacle Race Training: How to Beat Any Course, Compete Like a Champion and Change Your Life written by Margaret Schlachter is something that an aspiring obstacle racer should definitely read.

One of the World’s Fastest Growing Sports

Up until just recently, I did not know that Obstacle Course Racing was a recent addition to the world of competitive sports. It first started in England in 1997 but started gaining momentum in the United States in 2010. For someone like me, who doesn’t know much about it, obstacle course racing is considered to be one of the world’s fastest growing sports with thousands of people around the world registering and showing up to race.

The author of the book competed at the very first Spartan Race in 2010. She has been recognized as an expert in obstacle course racing for her expertise in this unconventional sport. In this book, Margaret talks about how the sport can be a life changer regardless of your athletic ability. You will also find the basics of obstacle course racing and other relevant information about the different events like Spartan Race, Warrior Dash and Tough Mudder. You will learn how to find the race that is right for you, how to create a balanced training program and how to prepare for the race day and beyond.

I find this book to be a new and great way to challenge yourself and start having the time of your life. For only $11.85 it is definitely worth the time and money.
